Beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder

Josh Bell plays a violin worth 3.5 million dollars. People pay thousands to see him perform. If ever you want to hear someone play the violin, this is the one.

Recently, Bell was asked to take part in an experiment conducted by the Washington Post. He positioned himself at the entrance/exit of a high-traffic subway stop in Washington D.C and asked him to play. The test? See how many people would stop to hear him play and how much money he would make in the process. For 43 minutes, he played some of the most technically-difficult music imaginable, dressed in his blue jeans, shirt, and ball cap. The Post even secretly video-taped the entire sequence. Care to wager a guess of how much money he made? I encourage you to check out the story, complete with video footage. Click here.

There was an old saying in college based upon the phrase, “beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder” (vs. beholder). It implies that for those who drank too much, well, they would find most anything to be beautiful.

I wonder what you make of this story? What thoughts come to mind? What big-picture observations? Comments welcome!

This guy draws attention like your blog draws comments. Yikes!

I doubt I would have stopped. However, I probably would have stopped had it been John Mayer playing a Strat.
